Benjamin “Ben” Louis Allen, 67 of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on September 19, 2022 at Stella Maris. He will be forever loved and remembered. With a large family and even larger group of friends, his loss is truly and deeply felt.
Ben was a gifted artist from a very young age, with drawing and sketching being his favorite subjects in school. His favorite mediums included charcoal and then as he grew older changed to acrylic and oil paint. Ben went on to pursue a degree and career in Graphic Arts and was accepted into the Maryland Institute College of Art, earning his BFA.
Once graduating, Ben leapt into the field of graphic design working at Alpha Graphics and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Later in life, he was employed at the Baltimore Museum of Art where his love and passions took on further enjoyment and meaning. Ben not only loved art, but history and antiques. He enjoyed being a member of The Northern Ceramic Society and traveled to many antique fairs and programs. He would relax in his free time by listening to
classic jazz music, eating his favorite Chinese dish, and taking long drives through the Pennsylvania countryside.
Ben was a uniquely creative man with a mind for storytelling and child-like inquisitiveness. He loved visiting museums, galleries, cultural festivals, and concerts. His appetite for knowledge could only compare for his love of teaching. He inspired his daughter to become an artist and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of antiques with fellow collectors.
He is predeceased by his parents, Irvin Allen and Marcia Brewer Allen. He is survived by his loving daughter, Gianna, brother Ira Allen (Elizabeth), and Edward Allen, aunts, uncles, cousins and long-time friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ben’s honor at a later date. We appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
