Helen Gertrude Farkas, lovingly known as "Gramcracker" and "Granny," passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Essex, Maryland, just three days shy of her 92nd birthday. Born Helen Gertrude Fisher on May 9, 1934, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, she brought joy and warmth to all who knew her throughout her remarkable life. Helen was the cherished daughter of the late John and Grace Fisher. She grew up alongside her brothers Johnny and Rusty Fisher, who preceeded her in death. In her adult years, she married the love of her life, John Farkas, with whom she shared a deep bond until his passing. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter.
Helen is survived by her devoted children: Donald Fisher and his wife Ann; Donna (Farkas) Gaydosh; and Sandy (Farkas) Paulino and Duaine Painter. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Steve and Jeska Gaydosh, Brittany Gaydosh, Stephanie and Michael Paulino, and Shannon Sabo, Jayden Painter She was also a proud great-grandmother to Taylor, Stevie, and Johnathan Gaydosh; Charles (CJ) Hill; Carter Lawrence; Anngello Jeppi;and Aliyah Sabo. The family eagerly anticipates welcoming Helen's first great-great-granddaughter, Charlie.
Known for her vibrant personality and caring nature, Helen had a way of making everyone feel special. She was affectionately regarded as "the best granny to everyone" by those fortunate enough to know her. Her humor and kindness left an indelible mark on countless lives. Helen embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. She earned the title of "Flea Market Queen," delighting in the treasures she discovered and shared with others. Her faith was an integral part of her life as a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church. Helen's memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Her laughter, love, sarcasm and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to have known her. May Helen Gertrude Farkas rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave during her lifetime.
