Leonard Paddy Obituary

On February 10, 2021 Leonard Henry Paddy passed away at the home of his daughter Diane Kilgore of Darlington MD. He was the son of the late Russell Herbert and Gladys Evelyn Paddy of Crofton, MD; born November 16, 1951.

Leonard was a United States marine who served as a Sergeant in Vietnam War where he received the Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart. While serving his country in Vietnam he contracted Agent Orange which affected him the rest of his life. Leonard has been suffering from lung cancer which was diagnosed in March 2013. He recently learned that the cancer had returned and spread. He suffered two heart attacks in the last weeks.

He was a loving husband of the late Rose Ann (Buecker) Paddy who preceded him in death on March 13, 2013. They were blessed with their daughter Diane Renee (Paddy) Kilgore  and son Jay Markus Paddy who was from Rose Ann Paddy’s previous marriage that Leonard adopted. The couple loved chickens in fact that’s where they met. They enjoyed listening to them crow every morning. "Country born and bred!!" As Leonard would say. They had many wonderful vacations in Ocean City, MD where they spent countless hours watching the waves roll in.

Leonard was a hard worker, working many years as a carpenter with his brothers-in-law, Jim and Ferdinand III, Buecker, and before retirement with his nephew, Eric Grace.

He loved to travel. In recent years he took his mother-in-law and sister-in-law on excursions to Marion, Virginia; the birthplace of his mother-in-law, and Kentucky where he and Rose owned property. He also drove as far west as Montana, Idaho, and later to the Grand Canyon, where he longed to return.

Leonard loved his grandchildren, making many trips to visit Danielle and Kalee in Michigan. He was a real vocal spectator at softball games where he spent many hours cheering Lexi on, the teams star performer, as he told everyone who would listen. He was so proud of her. He spent lots of quality time with Josh, teaching him things only grandpas can teach. There were always special times where their family would get together and go out to eat at his favorite restaurant, Chilis.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Renee Kilgore, her husband Raymond Buddy Kilgore, and their children Alexis Rose and Joshua Brady of Darlington, MD, Danielle Lanore Paddy and Kalee, her significant other, of Kalamazoo, Michigan and his son Jay Markus Paddy of Edgewood, MD. Leonard is also survived by his siblings Patsy Bladen and Linda Hurst of Crofton, MD, Midgie Kelly of Frederick, MD. and two sisters Sally and Cindy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Butchie.

Leonard leaves behind many wonderful memories with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
