Mary Theresa (Cerra) Volpe

Mary Theresa Volpe (nee Cerra), age 91, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Volpe, Sr. for 69 years, and loving mother of E. John Volpe Jr. (wife Barbara), Cynthia V. Hunt (husband Charles), Linda V. Cerino (husband John), and Richard A. Volpe (companion Georgeta Anghel). She was also the cherished grandmother of Jason Volpe (wife Erin); Jessica Gerhard (husband Terrence); Lindsay and Alexandra Hunt; Andrew, Joshua (fiancee Shiran Zecharya), and Greggory Cerino; and dear great-grandmother of Callen and Jack Gerhard.

Born and raised in Highlandtown, and residing in Perry Hall for the past 56 years, she is survived by three siblings: Joseph Cerra, Emilio “Buck” Cerra, and Rose Paetow. She was predeceased by her parents Santo and Angelina Cerra (nee Trotta) and siblings: August Ruggiero, James Ruggiero, Louise Victoria, Anna Ruggiero, John Cerra, Michael Cerra, and Frank Cerra.

In addition to being a loving and caring wife and mother, Mrs. Volpe was an outstanding homemaker, superb cook, and devout Catholic. She had excellent culinary skills, exemplified by her Thanksgiving meat dressing and homemade spaghetti sauce lovingly referred to as “Red Gold”. Prior to the birth of her children, she was employed at International Harvester as a typist. Mrs. Volpe enjoyed steamed crabs, corn on the cob, bowling, bingo, and traveling with her family and friends. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality at St. Joseph Church - Fullerton.

To celebrate Mrs. Volpe’s life, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church - Fullerton, 8420 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236 on Monday, December 6 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the entrance of the church. (The family asks that masks be worn in the church.) The Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Joseph Church - Fullerton.
