Naomi Fay (Marcum) Simon

It is with deep sadness and profound gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Naomi Fay (nee Marcum) Simon who passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on January 5, 1935, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, Naomi, affectionately known as Nellie by her family, lived a life displayed by her love for Jesus in her humble and servant attitude toward others. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Christian Simon and loving mother of John and wife Jennifer of Middle River, Wynne Gooding and husband Carlton of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Mark of Middle River. She was an incredibly proud grandmother to Jeremy Simon, Curtis Simon (wife Jill), Brent Gooding, Alexandra Gooding, Lucas Gooding (wife Caroline), Leah Gooding, Ansley Gooding, and Zeke Gooding, each of whom brought her endless happiness and pride. Cherishing Naomi’s memory are great-grandchildren Wallace Simon, Cooper Simon, Oliver Simon and baby girl Gooding to be.

Naomi is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Curtis Marcum and Ida Pauline (nee Luntsford), brothers Wayne, Lynn, Guy, Nellie’s twin Allen Kay, and brother-in-law John Simon. She is survived by sisters Meta Whaley of Alaska, Lydia Reider of Parkton, MD, Sue Garrett of Kentucky, and sister-in-law Edwina Hall (husband Raymond) of Middle River.

A devout Christian, Naomi was a pillar of strength and grace within her church family at Middle River Baptist Church. Her unwavering faith and active involvement in church life were sources of inspiration to all who shared in her love of Christ. Her infectious smile, boundless love and energy, and enthusiasm for children left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service celebrating Naomi’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Middle River Baptist Church 610 Middle River Road Middle River, Maryland 21220. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 10:00 am with the memorial service to follow at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
