She attended Our Lady of Pompei High School and Mercy High School, graduating in 1975, and going on to Loyola College and Johns Hopkins University. She trained as a pharmaceutical technician and worked at Mercy Hospital. Years later, she went to work at the headquarters of the FBI.

In the mid-1980's, she co-hosted a weekly one-hour Italian-American radio show from WTOW, called "Voce Italiana", with her brother Elia. In later years she co-hosted 2 other Italian-American Radio shows.
