On September 25, 2019 Salvatore "Sal" Bruno Ranieri beloved husband of 43 years to Rosalie M. (nee Anoia); loving father of Francesco A. Ranieri and Maria A. Ranieri; devoted brother of Francesca Vitale, and the late Pietro Ranieri. Also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Sal attended St Leo’s Elementary School and then graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in 1951. Drafted into the Korean Conflict, he served with the eighth Calvary in northern Japan. It was a challenging time as he resided in Quonset huts, and snow-shoed in seventy-two inches of snow while carrying his back pack.
After returning safely home, he enrolled in the University of Baltimore to pursue a degree in accounting. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was eager to assist small businesses with the challenge of filing tax returns. He joined the firm Berman, Goldman, and Ribakow where he was eventually named a partner. Lastly, he became Comptroller for the Matricciani Construction Company.
Deeply dedicated to the Italian-American Community, Sal served as president of the Italian-American Civic Club, 14 years as treasurer and then vice president, as secretary of the Associated Italian American Charities and president of the Little Italy Lodge, Order of the Sons of Italy in America. During his time as SOI treasurer, he completed the original 501-3C tax exempt status application for their scholarship program. Lastly, he played a prominent role in the founding of the Rev. Oreste Pandola Learning Center. In addition to serving as Treasurer for the last twenty-three years, he completed their application for a 501-C tax exempt status and other administrative duties and tax filings.
Sincere thanks must be given to the medical staff at Johns Hopkins Main Campus –especially the emergency and intensive care professionals, Mr. Brian Sharkey, CNP, Rose Maria Commodari Fusco, RN and lastly, Dr. David Zajano for his care of Sal over the past thirty years.
